A pipeline review that takes ten minutes

Long pipeline meetings usually exist because the pipeline is hard to read. Make it readable and the meeting shrinks to the decisions.

· Deals · 3 min read

Most pipeline reviews spend the first twenty minutes working out what is actually in the pipeline. Someone shares a screen, scrolls a table, explains an abbreviation. The decisions get whatever is left.

A ten minute shape

  • Two minutes on what is new: deals that opened since last time and where they came from.
  • Three minutes on what moved: deals that advanced or closed, won or lost.
  • Four minutes on what is stuck: deals with no clear next step or none for a while.
  • One minute on who does what before next week.

The rule that makes this work is that every deal has a next step written on it. A deal without one is the first thing you discuss, because it is the one most likely to go quiet.

Look at it the right way round

A board by stage shows flow. A table shows detail. A list of leads shows what has not become a deal yet. You want all three and the freedom to switch quickly, so the meeting follows the question instead of the tool.

How Levric does it

Levric’s Deals page has a board with New, In progress and Closed columns and the value in each. Stages run Qualified, Discovery, Proposal, then Won or Lost. There is also a Leads view and a Table view, with verdict and tag filters to narrow the list.

Each card carries the company, the value, the next step and the campaign it came from. That is the review: read down the board, look at what has no next step, and decide.
